Ph.D. Students:

We are looking for talented and passionate graduate students who are interested in a variety of projects on protein engineering, computational biology, chemical biology, and immunoengineering. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out ahead of time to Dr. Lu (george.lu at rice.edu) with their CV and a statement of interest to discuss the opportunities in the lab. Rice offers several distinct Ph.D. programs relevant to our research: (1) the Bioengineering program that are ranked among the top 10 in the coutry, (2) Systems, Synthetic, and Physical Biology (SSPB), an elite graduate program aiming to train the next-generation scientists interested in engineering biological systems, and (3)  Applied Physics program, which offers a unique and truly multidisciplinary graduate education.

Summer early matriculation: Students who are accepted to one of the grad programs are highly encouraged to contact Dr. Lu (george.lu at rice.edu) about summer rotations. Summer rotation is an opportunity to spend more time experiencing the research projects and lab culture in addition to the 1-month rotations during the fall, when students are often busy with coursework and other activities. Summer rotation students will be financially supported as research interns.

Postdoctoral Fellows:

We are actively seeking talented and motivated postdoctoral fellows to join our multidisciplinary group. Candidates with experience and interest in the following fields are particularly encouraged to apply: ultrasound imaging, computational protein design, synthetic biology, protein engineering, and chemical biology. Please see any one of the following job advertisements: Computational Protein Design, Biomolecular Ultrasound Imaging, and general.

Master Students:

Prospective master students are encouraged to apply to Rice’s Master of Bioengineering program. Please note that we recently added a Research-Based track in addition to the previous Class-Based track under the Applied Bioengineering concentration. While both tracks provide opportunities for one to conduct research projects in an individual lab, the research track provides more resources and time. See here for details.

Undergraduate Students:

We are looking for motivated undergraduate students who are interested in doing research. Please feel free to email your inquiries to Dr. Lu (george.lu at rice.edu).
